Crazy Star Wars Merchandise 2

Crazy Star Wars Merchandise

Crazy Star Wars Merchandise 2I’m so glad the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here! BECAUSE I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE BARRAGE OF ADVERTISEMENTS AND INSANE MERCHANDISE! I think what finally put me over the edge was the Cover Girl Star Wars stand that I saw at the store and then the commercial later that week. I mean seriously, Disney’s marketing campaign is out of control. Plus the late night hosts won’t shut up about it. I know the movie comes out today, but I am already over it.

Also I feel like I should watch the other movies leading up to this one if I want to watch the new movie and if I remember right Episode 2 was so boring that I never even saw Episode 3. Plus I don’t remember Episode 6 being anything special, but that was a long time ago. I’m almost sure that my opinion about this won’t be popular, but that could just be Disney brain washing me into thinking that everyone on planet earth loves Star Wars and will be going to the theater today.

I was actually looking forward to watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not so much because it’s Star Wars, but because the puppetry and special effects should be awesome. Plus it’s pretty cool that they brought back a lot of the original cast to do a proper squeal. I do have to wonder if anyone from the original cast will actually be in Episode 8, but for now they appear to have everything they would need to make a great movie. Either way, I don’t see myself going to the theater without a girlfriend and I definitely don’t see that in my near future. 😛

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

We’ll Miss You Jon Stewart 😞

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

There is nothing I’ve spent more time watching on TV than The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Over the last decade and a half The Daily Show has made it possible to watch news without putting a noose around my neck. I know the show isn’t going anywhere, but it’s going to be hard to adjust after basically growing up watching Jon Stewart host the show. Plus I’m sure it’s going to be hard for Trevor Noah to follow Jon Stewart considering Jon’s experience and involvement in every part of the show, which I’ve learned a lot more about by listening to their relatively new podcast The Daily Show Podcast without Jon Stewart.

One great thing is that Comedy Central has been doing a proper send off with a best of show and today’s marathon of episodes. I was proud that out of everything I’ve seen recently I’ve only come across one episode that I don’t remember watching. 🙂 They also did a great job with the final episode by bringing everyone back and even showing the people behind the scenes. Plus it was great when Stephen Colbert cornered Jon (who doesn’t handle emotional moments very well) and thanked him on behalf of everyone for everything he has done for them at The Daily Show. Jon also got his own “moment of zen” featuring his favorite musician Bruce Springsteen. I can’t imagine a better final show; we’ll miss you Jon Stewart! 🙁

P.S. I have to thank Chris Hardwick and @Midnight for following the final episode and showing some respect, just like they did when the Colbert Report ended.

Doctor Whos

Trying to Understand Doctor Who

Doctor Whos

Wanted to know why everyone in the geek world is so into this show. I just finished the first season of Doctor Who which at first reminded me of the Sliders TV show, although it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that show. Doctor Who is entertaining and brings together a lot of different sci-fi ideas including the episode “Father’s Day” which reminded me a lot of Stephen King’s “The Langoliers”. I’m sure I don’t even catch half of the references, but I know some sci-fi and I love space. The graphics are cheap, but that’s not completely unusual for a TV show that was made 10+ years ago. Also they did a great job of setting up the second season, although I have to wonder if they can keep up the suspense. Still not sure if I understand everyone’s obsession, but the show is fun and entertaining. Plus like most geeky shows they seem to be slowly getting around to explaining everything people might question in the show.

Womens VS Mens Soccer

Why Women’s Soccer is Better than Men’s

Womens VS Mens Soccer

There is no better time to talk about women’s soccer than during the Women’s World Cup, which is just one year after the Men’s World Cup. I will say that men’s soccer can be more exciting than women’s, but what makes the big difference for me is that the men spend half the game on the ground crying like little girls pretending to be hurt, trying to get a penalty kick. While the women appear to be to busy playing soccer to lay on the ground, unless they’re actually hurt. Although I have seen some BS from both men and women when the game goes into stoppage time. Plus as an American it’s nice to see our team win on a regular basis. 🙂

Jon Stewart and Larry Wilmore

Late Night on Comedy Central

Jon Stewart and Larry Wilmore

I may have been a little hard on Larry Wilmore in my last post, but I think it’s understandable. I know he’s a comedian, but when you run a show called The Nightly Show and you follow The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, we’re all going to have some expectations. For example, last night Larry followed Jon Stewart doing a serious and somewhat outgoing interview with Judith Miller about how she and the media contributed to the start of the Iraq war.

I never expected Larry Wilmore to replace Stephen Colbert. Really it was pretty gutsy of him to even take the time slot, but at the same time Jon Stewart and The Cobert Report united all of us while pointing out the insanity of government, big business, and crazy people in general. I think Larry is focusing to much on race to do the same thing. I know there are some real racial issues in this country that need to be dealt with, but you shouldn’t be relating everything to race. We shouldn’t be looking at this as a problem between white and black people, but as a problem with the people who make the laws and enforce them. I think most of us look forward to the day that race isn’t an issue.

On the plus side I’m watching more Conan, although I’m missing @Midnight more often, so there is some good and bad about my new TV schedule. I am afraid that when Jon Stewart leaves I may not have a reason to watch late night TV. I wouldn’t mind watching less TV, but news is going to be a lot more depressing than it has been without late night on Comedy Central.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore

I’m Done with The Nightly Show

The Nightly Show with Larry WilmoreI’ve generally enjoyed The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, but I’ve never been a big fan of the racial tendencies. Well last night The Nightly Show finally put me over the edge, and I think I’m done, it’s become apparent that this show is not for regular people, it’s for regular black people. It reminds me of a comedian from a couple decades ago who would try to generalize everything in order to make racial jokes.

Last night Larry Wilmore’s show was about the Baltimore riots following Freddie Gray’s death. He started out strong by calling out Fox News for not being able to relate and using racial stereotypes, but then he himself started doing the very same thing. It seems a little strange when Larry refers to the protesters as we. Then Phillip Agnew tries to justify the riots by saying that black people weren’t getting any attention until they started burning things, which is a little over the top. I would have loved to see Martin Luther King Jr. on the panel after comments like that. Then Larry starts talking about white people riots and how they don’t burn their own things, which I’m still curious as to what that was about. I also enjoyed the comment by Kerry Coddett about white people rioting over sports games, I wasn’t paying attention to skin colors, but I think sports are a pretty universal thing. Anyways, here we are talking about racism and riots instead of important problems like the neglect and death of innocent people.

You know once we almost had a riot here in our small town. The KKK were having a parade through town and a riot started to break out against the parade (even though we didn’t have a lot of diversity around here). Guess that was one of those “white people” riots with their stupid first world problems…

Anti-Valentine’s Day Video

I’m single and I’ve never been more focused on my web design projects. 😛

Here’s a video for everyone who didn’t enjoy Valentine’s Day. Personally, I painted the town red with heart-shaped stickers. 🙂
